What we've been up to...

Hi everyone! I’m Lisa, the new member of staff to join the Star Project. I’ve been here since October, and I must say it’s a fantastic job and I’m loving it! Michelle and Brent have made me really welcome and have showed me the ropes – and I’ve enjoyed meeting you all of course!

While continuing to work with schools in the city using our sex and relationships programme, we have recently introduced sessions specifically to raise awareness of Internet Safety. After attending a training session with C.E.O.P.S (Child Exploitation Online Protection), we used the programme at Redbridge Community School with Year 8 students. It had a powerful impact on the students, and certainly paved the way for some real candid discussion. Hopefully all students went home and saved ‘The Think u Know’ website to their favourites.

Also with Redbridge we had a fantastic day at Marwell Hotel.... We like to attend anywhere there happens to be a free lunch on offer! We tried out some new exercises, which the year 10’s and 11’s enjoyed. What a lovely bunch of young people! We definitely enjoyed working with them.

Last year at Oaklands Community School, Star and the students won a national award for a six week peer-led project, aimed at them ultimately delivering their own piece of sex and relationships work to their year 8s. We just had to repeat it, and a great success it was once again. The students worked really hard and were amazing!

UP AND COMING

We are at present working with The Young Carers F2E Group. This is a peer led education programme, with the emphasis on positive relationships. Soon we are hoping to start work with Hightown and Kanes Hill. This takes the project to the younger students, yr 5 and 6.
